From Pasture to Your Home: Why We Make Regenerative Wool Felted Mats

At Guided Rock Farms, we believe every part of the farm should have purpose. That includes the wool from our sheep.
For years, American wool has been undervalued—often sold for pennies or discarded altogether. We wanted a different outcome. One that honored the sheep, the land, and the work it takes to steward both well.
That’s how our regenerative wool felted mats came to be.
Why Wool?
Wool is one of the most remarkable natural fibers on earth. Long before synthetic materials existed, wool was keeping people warm, dry, and comfortable.
Naturally, wool is:
Antimicrobial and odor-resistant
Temperature-regulating (warm in winter, cool in summer)
Flame-resistant
Durable and long-lasting
Fully biodegradable
Unlike plastic or foam mats, wool doesn’t break down into microplastics or off-gas chemicals into your home.
Why Regenerative?
Our sheep are raised using regenerative grazing practices here in western Nebraska. That means:
Healthy pastures with living roots year-round
Improved soil biology and water retention
Humane, low-stress animal care
A system designed to improve the land over time
When you purchase one of our mats, you’re supporting a farming model that works with nature rather than against it.
How the Mats Are Made
Each mat is created using wet-felting techniques. The wool is layered, compressed, and bonded using water, soap, and time—no chemicals, no shortcuts. We locally source assistance with our felting at Simpson Wool Mill in Bayard, NE. The result is a dense, sturdy mat measuring approximately 4 feet by 3 feet, designed to stand up to daily use.
Because they are hand crafted, each mat has its own character and texture. That’s part of the beauty.
How People Use Them
Our wool mats are incredibly versatile. Customers use them as:
Entryway or mudroom mats
Kitchen floor mats
Yoga and meditation mats
Nursery or play mats
Bedside mats
Farmhouse work mats
Pet resting mats
One mat. Dozens of uses. Zero plastic.
Made in Limited Runs
These mats are made in small batches using wool from our own sheep and we do our own humane shearing. Once a batch sells out, we wait until the next felting run—there’s no mass production here.
They are designed to be used, loved, and passed along. Not replaced every few years.
If you’ve been looking for a functional home essential that aligns with your values, this is it.
From our pasture to your floor—thank you for supporting regenerative farming.
